Last Saturday’s Friends of the WTR West Toronto Railpath Planting Day was a huge success! Gardeners, cyclists, butterfly lovers and other enthusiasts arrived to take part in the 100in1Day event to plant milkweed along the railpath as part of the David Suzuki Foundation’s ‘Got Milkweed?’ Campaign.
The day kicked off with opening words from Jode Roberts of the David Suzuki Foundation, followed by STLAi’s Erika Richmond recounting the West Toronto Railpath’s seed collection story. Urban Ecologist J.Scott MacIvor spoke about the benefits of milkweed and biodiversity in the urban landscape.
The group then spent the beautiful sunny afternoon planting milkweed – 500 planted in all.
