Victoria Park Subway Station recognized with RAIC 2014 National Urban Design Award

STLAi Senior Associate Svetlana Lavrentieva attended the 2014 MAA / RAIC Festival of Architecture at the end of May in Winnipeg. During this annual conference for architects across Canada,  Svetlana was pleased to accept a National Urban Design Award on behalf of STLAi for its Revitalization of the Victoria Park Subway Station project.

Honoured in the Civic Design Projects category with a Certificate of Merit, the jury commented that the Victoria Park Station was:

“An iconic piece of urban infrastructure that not only fulfills its transportation function but also demonstrates how such projects can be civic and social infrastructure that provide spaces of commodity and delight in architecture and the landscape.”

Stating “the Victoria Station provides a model for similar transit infrastructure renewal and enlightened design across Canada”, the RAIC also noted that “urban design elements, including the buildings, circulation, landscaping, green roof gardens and art were woven together into a consistent whole”.
