STLAi is looking forward to taking part in the West Toronto Railpath / Got Milkweed? Planting Day on Saturday, June 6, starting at 9am. This event, organized by the West Toronto Railpath Stewardship Group (a committee of Friends of the Railpath), will feature talks at 10am by J. Scott MacIvor, STLAi’s very own Erika Richmond, and a representative from the David Suzuki Foundation ‘Got Milkweed’ Campaign. All are welcome to celebrate the West Toronto Railpath Park, explore this unique, car-free biologically diverse linear park, and to plant milkweed.
Milkweed is the only plant that Monarch butterflies lay their eggs on and is the main source of food for their caterpillars. The David Suzuki Foundation/Homegrown National Park Project ‘Got Milkweed’ Campaign aims to bring back milkweed – and the Monarch butterflies – back to the city.
“Help create a butterfly corridor through the city. Bring back the monarch butterflies, one milkweed plant at a time.”
